All our fireworks are tested and conform to BS7114, British Standards for Fireworks. some information is given below on what the standards cover in terms of distance and appropriate use.
British Standard 7114 gives specification for all types of fireworks but as a broad guide:-
Category 1 Fireworks when used according to instructions should not cause injury to people standing 1 metre or more away (ie fireworks suitable for use inside domestic premises)
Category 2 Fireworks when used according to instructions should not cause injury to people standing 5 metres or more away (suitable for outdoor use in relatively confined areas)
Category 3 Fireworks when used according to instructions should not cause injury to people standing 25 metres or more away (suitable for outdoor use in large open spaces)
Category 4 Fireworks are not intended for sale to the general public.
British Standard 7114 requires certain markings to be on all fireworks:
Category 1 Fireworks:- should be marked “Fireworks suitable for indoor use”
Category 2 Fireworks:- should be marked “Garden fireworks” (there is an exception for sparklers)
Category 3 Fireworks:- should be marked “Display fireworks”
Category 4 Fireworks:- should be marked “This device must not be sold to, or used by, a member of the general public”.
In addition there are requirements for warnings, instructions and specified names of fireworks that have to be included in the markings on the fireworks.
